Behind the scenes of AW12: Leopards
This week, our Brick Lane store played host to "Behind the Scenes of Autumn Winter 2012", an evening dedicated to exploring our new seasonal collection. Customers were invited to enter the world of Tatty Devine and discover the hidden stories behind our jewellery. It was a very special event, as it was the first time Harriet and Rosie have publicly revealed what inspires their work and the design process behind it. Missed out on this event? Don't worry, we're giving you a behind the scenes peek into our studio during the making of the collection. Let's begin with our Leopard story, or as Rudyard Kipling might put it, "how the leopard got its spots." Our leopards' signature spotted print is created with glittering amber or ebony Swarovski crystals. Each crystal is expertly hand applied by our Production Assistant Annick. Using a cocktail stick to pick up the individual crystals, she delicately places each one where the glue has been dotted on the leopards' bodies. Annick's top tip? Coat the end of your cocktail sticks in sticky beeswax, as it allows you to pick up the crystals with ease and leave no mark on the finished product. "Keep going!" Our Leopard Brooch starts to take shape... It takes steady hand to affix the thick golden chains to our Leopard Head Large Necklace. What does a leopard need to hunt its prey? Ears, of course! Annick attaches ears to our Leopard Head Large Brooch. Time to make some Leopard Head Mini Necklaces. We use multi-faceted scarlet Swarovski beads to create drops of blood hanging from our ferocious big cats' jaws. Ta-da! Have you ever seen a more beautiful pack of leopards? They're all waiting to be made into Leopard Head Rings. Put some "Grrr" into your wardrobe now.
