2021: A year of fun!

Time flies when you’re having fun. We definitely had a BALL in 2021, it zoooomed by so fast we almost missed it! From a cacophony of collaborations, more Misshapes madness and workshop wizardries - there is so much to look back on. We’d have to pen another book if we were going to put all the memories into words so let's stick to the highlights…

Goddesses gathered together.

A year of celebrating powerful women started with Held By Many Hands. Inspired by goddesses from prehistory to present our SS21 collection was an abundance of intricately handcrafted acrylic, adorned with awe-inspiring finishes from inking to shining crystals.

We spread LOVE & JOY.

"When I am working on a project I see huge structures in my head but I draw everything on a small scale, always thinking about the space they will end up in," says Morag. "This has been a fantastic experience as the jewellery is so small it is like wearing models of my structures on your body." Morag Myerscough

Known for her incredible large-scale structures and eye-catching colourful installations, we turned renowned artist and designer Morag Myerscough’s incredible work into pieces of wearable art. As seen in Creative Boom and Design Week, Tatty Devine X Morag Myerscough is our first collection fully created in laser cut wood… FSC certified birch plywood was hand-painted by our female makers, we used the same technique as Morag in her work.

Down the rabbit hole.

With the launch of the V&A’s exhibition “Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser”, we took a trip through the archive of Lewis Carroll’s incredible imagination and designed a collection in homage to the world of wonderland.

Exclusive to only the V&A Museum Shop, we were mad as a hatter to spot our super statements inspired by the Queen of Hearts and trippy tea parties when we popped by. Loved the exhibition and want a little more? We got the inside goss from the curator of Curiouser and Curiouser, Kate Bailey, on the blog.

We opened our doors…once more!

After being shut for way too long, April saw us don our masks, turn on the disco ball and debut a custom laser cut sneeze-screen as we reopened our Seven Dials store in the heart of the West End. Planning your IRL visit in-store? Next stop, Leicester Square tube!

Known for our eye-catching window displays, superb store stars and made-while-you-wait Personalised Name Necklaces, it’s official we’re one of the best! Shoutout to Travel Mag who included us in ‘10 of the best jewellery stores in London’ alongside The Great Frog and Tessa Metcalfe.

You’ve joined us in championing causes close to our hearts: from puckering up with gynaecological cancer research charity the Eve Appeal, to smashing stereotypes with our ongoing Fawcett Society collection and reimagining super illustrator Venus Libido’s art as pieces of jewellery with the Young Women’s Trust, we’re thrilled to reflect on another incredible year of giving back.

2021 also saw us join forces with our friend Phillip Normal to create two exclusive pieces you just couldn’t get enough of… Inspired by Russell T Davies’ poignant drama, It’s A Sin, the smash hit La. Brooch saw £10 per brooch sold donated to support the incredible Terrence Higgins Trust providing support for people living with and affected by HIV. Jurassic fans worldwide rejoiced as we released an extra special specimen, the mighty Pride-osaur Statement Necklace, with £60 per piece donated to Not A Phase, supporting the lives of trans+ adults across the UK. More and more Misshapes.

The magic of Misshapes continued… Our Tatty tales travelled from 2021 Visual Arts in Scunthorpe to New Brewery Arts in Cirencester before the last stop of 2021, Ty Pawb in Wales. The fun doesn’t end there, keep your eyes peeled for Misshapes: The Making of Tatty Devine opening at Hove Museum and Art Gallery, Brighton and Hove in February 2022.

With our heads in the archive on each trip to Misshapes, there was another “Oooh, I wish I had that” moment. With only one solution, make some more, we welcomed FOUR new limited additions to our Birthday collection.

First came the show-stopping Goddess Sunrise, fit for a… well, Goddess! Next up, cloudy with a chance of Halcyon Skies. Did someone say Golden Hour? Our Pop Leopard Head glistened its way into our lives - get your claws into the matching earrings. Time to sew this segment up with the latest edition to the Tatty Devine haberdashery, inspired by the teaches of Peaches we just had to bring back the GIANT Zip Statement Necklace - psst, there is still one left in-store.

Let’s Dance.

Celebrating the 50th year since Hunky Dory’s release in 1971, we stage-dived straight into an iconic archive to celebrate a musical legend with Tatty Devine X BOWIE.

Inspired by the one-and-only David Bowie, we've taken inspiration from onstage outfits seen at The Marquee Club in London, songs you just wanna sing and outfits to bring you a collection that will make you want to put on your red shoes and makeup looks immortalised on film by Duffy. From Aladdin Sane Bolts, Ziggy Suits and Space Oddity helmet, our out-of-this-world collection has seen us at the Bowie 75 pop-up and featured in Evening Standard, Wallpaper and the Metro.

Sample Sale came back.

The most anticipated date in any Tatty Devine fan’s calendar, an annual event where acrylic jewellery lovers pitch their camping chairs at 4am in East London to get first dibs on some fantastic finds. 

With the rule of six, or whatever was happening at that point, sadly we couldn’t gather together for the #TDSampleSale2020 but in 2021 things went digital! Through the power of the internet, the Sample Sale was back with Parakeets in all colours, pearly kings and that Iridescent Squid Necklace on everyone’s wish list. 

We’ve been in a musical mood.

Our Spotify Wrapped is a work of art every year, if we do say so ourselves, and we like to think we’re fully in the know about the who's who of music. The only people who know more than us? Heavenly Recordings, of course. Home to the likes of Confidence Man, Working Men's Club and Baxter Dury, it seemed like THE perfect fit to team up to create some merch for those music lovers. 

In pink or black, we turned the independent record label’s iconic dreamy typeface into that must-have piece of merch at any table. Agustina, Tatty Devine X Gemma Correll model, uber babe and member of Los Bitchos shows us just how heavenly this exclusive to Heavenly piece looks layered chicly over a black turtleneck… [Sidenote: Check out the merch we designed for Los Bitchos here. Tequila!]

We just couldn’t stop there… Signed to the record label of dreams, we just had to create something for Katy J Pearson. Inspired by artwork from her “Take Back The Radio” music video, illustrated by Raissa Pardini, a perfect pair of earrings were born! See Katy wearing them when she popped down to our studio to sing Hey You just for us.

Workshops… IRL!

We missed these so much… In real-life workshops made a comeback and we got to go around the country meeting you all. From Wales to the Isle of Wight, to London and the Cotswolds, we had a bunting good time.

Scarf-game skyrocketed.

In 2020, Tatty Devine X Miss Pompom took knitwear to a new level and in 2021 it became the boss. With FOUR new scarf designs and TWO bobble hats, these warm winter accessories became a must-have! 

From Rainbows to Lobsters, they are selling out fast - wrap up while you can.

We hate this the least.

OMG, this one’s been a long time coming but Tatty Devine X Gemma Correll finally became a real-life thing in 2021! Since we first met Gemma way back in 2011, when she installed her exhibition Graham is a Weirdo in our Brick Lane store, we just knew those hand-drawn pen and ink drawings of everyone’s fave furry friends needed to be reworked into THE CUTEST jewellery.

For cat and dog-lovers alike, we celebrated the launch of Tatty Devine X Gemma Correll with a paw-some instore launch with Gemma herself - lots of fangirling happened, yes! With puppaccinos from Pop and Bark as incentive, with invited you lot and your pooches to sit for a pet portrait - check out this cheeky trio Gemma drew on the day.

 With jewellery on full display, we saw some of those four-legged visitors checking out the Pugs Not Drugs Necklace. Alongside the collection available online and in-store we have a series of EXCLUSIVE Gemma Correll prints available in our Seven Dials store.

It’s official… We’re cool.

Ending a year of highlights on a high point, we're a #CoolBrand... no we're not just saying that! We really are!! For the second time, we've been awarded @coolbrandsuk status, catch us wearing sunglasses inside from here on out.
