It's World Space Week
A celebration of science and technology, World Space Week is celebrated between October 4th and October 10th commemorating two major events in space exploration. The launch of Sputnik 1 way back in 1957 and the signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space in 1967 - astronomical!
They bring us the latest trashy telly, let us send dog pics to our pals and stop us wondering “should I bring a brolly?”. World Space Week 2020 is all about the ways Satellites Improve Life!
Over on the World Space Week website you can see a full calendar of ways to celebrate. We’re loving this International Space Station tracker. Did you know you can see it with the naked eye? Just pop in your city and find the perfect time to catch a sighting. You can even see what the astronauts see!

A satellite is any object that orbits another object, so the moon is a natural satellite that orbits Planet Earth.
There are over 2,000 operating man-made satellites orbiting the Earth right now!
Pictures taken by high-resolution satellite imagery have identified more than 3,100 Egyptian settlements, 17 pyramids, and 1,000 tombs.
