Juliet Sear's Unbeatable Biscuits!

As the mist rolls in and haunting howls echoes in the distance, feel your heart beat a little faster this Halloween with a helping hand from Tatty Devine's finest designs... with a twist! We challenged baker and all round vamp, Juliet Sear, to recreate our Anatomical Heart jewellery in biscuit & icing form. Piping bags at the ready, we're ready to get our creepy cardiologist on... eeek!

Start off with a simple base for your sweet treat, we rather like Juliet's vanilla cookie recipe. Mmm! Shape your dough in the rough shape of an anatomical heart, pop in the oven for the allotted time and leave to cool. Roll up those sleeves and tie back your hair - yep, we're looking at you, Cousin It! Whip up a quick batch of Royal Icing, you'll need a couple of different shades to get that realistic 'organ' look. Nervous? Take a peek at Juliet's Royal Icing piping tutorial, take a deep breath and stick the Monster Mash on in the background...

Start by filling in segments of the same colour, piping a little outline around each section so it contains the icing nicely and keeps things fairly neat. Continue all the way around until you're red-y for detailing, delicately pipe arteries and any little accents needed to bring your heart to life. Leave to set and ta-da! Anatomical Heart Biscuits, best served with broken in half with a steaming mug of hot Ribena. Berry good work!

HEY JULIET, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO ICE EACH BISCUIT?

Ooh, each one takes about 7 minutes. I timed myself and found that as I went on, I got quicker and managed to get it down to 4 minutes! (Phew, prepping for a party? Make sure you leave plenty of time to ice those arteries!)

WHAT KIND OF ICING DID YOU USE?

Classic Royal Icing! You can then adapt the colours to suit, a bit like potion making!

HELP! HOW DO WE NAIL ANATOMICAL HEART REALNESS?

I coloured my Royal Icing with of food colouring, creating my own shades using orange, red, ruby, burgundy and brown. Ta-da!

LASTLY, WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SPOOKY SONG TO WORK TO?

Thriller has to be the one!

Fancy a bite of Juliet's jaw-dropping creations? Be-head to our Brick Lane store, where the first four spooks to make a purchase today* will take home an Anatomical Heart Biscuit. Wart are you waiting for? Swoop on over and say hi to our gore assistants NOW! 😉
