Lockdown reads from our co-founders, Rosie and Harriet
We don’t know about you but trying to achieve calm in these somewhat strange times can be a little tricky, eh?
We love nothing better than a spot of escapism, especially now. If it’s pottering around the kitchen looking for snacks, colouring in or a little meditation, reading is a superb way of switching off to another place. There has never been a better time to try and plough through the pile of books that you have been meaning to read or being whisked away and soothed by a friendly new voice on a podcast.
We caught up with our co-founders to have a peek at what they are into at the moment:
Harriet Vine, Co-founder and Creative Director:
“At the moment when I'm running, I'm listening to The Testaments, by Magaret Atwood and whilst at home I’m reading Role Models by John Waters.”
“I also have a bunch of Vintage craft books I have been looking at again which are an endless inspiration.”
Rosie Wolfenden, Co-founder and Managing Director:
“The last book I read was Beloved by Toni Morrison. It’s a new edition with a beautiful design and forward by Zadie Smith. I was absolutely hypnotised by this book, so poetic, so emotional, so relevant.”
“I’m currently reading Frankisstein: a love story, by my all time favourite Jeanette Winterson. It is a mind blowing take on the future of AI interwoven with a historical account of Mary Shelley and the story of Frankenstein. I love the way Winterson’s sentences can be so loaded with such big ideas in so few words.”
“Next on the list is Surfacing by Margaret Atwood. I’ve been wanting to read it since watching the documentary - Margaret Atwood: A Word after a Word after a Word is Power. In this they talk about the importance of Surfacing as a piece of feminist literature so can’t wait to read it.”
With so many wonderful things to explore, what literary delights have you discovered or re-discovered? Equally important, what snacks are to hand whilst doing so?
