Women We Watch: BAFTA Nominees
Lights, Camera, Take Action! It’s that time of year again, pop on your best dress, get a glass of fizz, sit down on the sofa and put on the BAFTAs. There are some truly AMAZING ladies nominated this year and we wanted to shine a spotlight on some of them.

So, let’s hear it for the directors! Girls have taken over this category, with four out of six of the nominees being female directors.

Shoutout to Chloé Zhao for Nomadland, Jasmila Žbanić for Quo Vadis, Aida?, Sarah Gavron for Rocks and an honourable mention for personally one of my favourite films of the last year, Shannon Murphy for Babyteeth.

Babyteeth EE BAFTA nominations

All about a terminally ill teenage girl who falls in love with a classic bad boy, it will make you laugh AND cry. Not forgetting an awesome soundtrack, check out “Come Meh Way” by Sudan Archives.

Time to shimmy on over to the Original Screenplay nominees with Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman, who you may recognise as Camilla in The Crown, proving she really can do it all. She’s joined by Theresa Ikokok and Claire Wilson for one of the many nominations for Rocks.

Rocks EE BAFTAs

A film full of real life representation, with school girls as the cast, the film follows a young girl struggling to take care of herself and her younger brother when their mum disappears.

Now not just nominated for Original Screenplay, Rocks is also up for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, Best Director and Best Casting. Now that’s a lot of nominations and there’s still two more!!

Thinking back to what we were doing when we were in our teens, it definitely wasn’t being nominated for Best Supporting Actress like Kosar Ali or Leading Actress like Bukky Bakray.

Wow, we haven’t even had time to touch on all the other Leading Actresses nominated this year! Guess you’ll just have to tune into the BAFTAs to see who is up and more importantly who wins.

Tune into BBC 2 from 6:30pm today for you first fix then get ready for the finale on Sunday 11th April at 7pm on BBC 1.
