Exploring the North East

Back in 2015, we travelled up north for the first stop on our Tatty Tour, to the beautiful (and somewhat chilly!) north east of England.

With our workshop equipment in one hand and cheeky Dog on Wheels in the other, we pulled on our cosiest jumpers and headed out to explore. Here's some of the Geordie gems we discovered...

TYNEMOUTH MARKET, TYNEMOUTH First up, Tynemouth Market - set in the beautifully restored Tynemouth Station, this bustling market is a treasure trove for bargain hunters! With 150 stalls spanning over both platforms, you can find Victorian teddy bears to old cassettes, cupcakes to bric-a-brac and everything in between.

OCEAN'S FISH AND CHIPS, NORTH SHIELDS Not to be missed, Ocean's Fish and Chips is the best fish and chips we've ever tasted. Set on North Shield's Fish Quay, Ocean's is owned and run by local fishermen. In true British style we chose to sit on the quay and tuck into ours with a side of mushy peas and tea - after all, fish and chips always taste better when you sit outside!

BALTIC, GATESHEAD BALTIC Centre of Contemporary Arts is a firm favourite with us! Set on the River Tyne, BALTIC boasts spectacular views and ever-changing contemporary art displays - we'd definitely recommend taking in the view from the 5th floor, checking out the gift shop (spot our Tatty Devine X Morag Myerscough BELONGING Brooch) and tucking into a deluxe hot chocolate from the café.

ANGEL OF THE NORTH, GATESHEAD After passing by the Angel of the North on numerous trips, it was amazing to see Sir Anthony Gormley's 66" steel sculpture up close. We even snapped a picture of our very own Angel of the North Necklace with the real deal, something we've been wanting to do for ages!

RPM MUSIC, NEWCASTLE We could've spent hours in RPM lusting over vinyl, chatting to their friendly staff and discovering weird and wonderful album covers. We didn't walk away empty handed, we picked up a The Police album for £2 - what a bargain!

TYNESIDE CINEMA, NEWCASTLE An institution with locals, Tyneside Cinema is the place to go for independent and world cinema. The beautifully restored Art Deco building is the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK and boasts two cafes and a cosy bar for pre or post cinema drinks. Their Christmas Eve showing of 'It's a Wonderful Life is always a sell out - so you best book now!
