Tatty Devine takes to the stage at Alternative Miss World!
Glitter? Check! Neon cape? Check! Last weekend, we adorned ourselves in the most outrageous outfits in our wardrobes and headed to the 13th Alternative Miss World beauty pageant. Founded by sculptor Andrew Logan in 1972, there are absolutely no restrictions on entry, meaning anything (and we mean anything!) goes. It was a dream come true when Birdy from Shoreditch Sisters WI asked us to create a one-off piece of jewellery for the swimwear round. 2014's theme is Neon Numbers and we knew we had to come up with a suitably cheeky creation to grace fabulous contestant, Jonny a.k.a. Miss Neon Natal. Harriet channelled her lifelong appreciation of innuendo as she recreated everybody's favourite number in super sized swirls of psychedelic neon Perspex. Jonny visited our studio for a special fitting to make sure that each number would sit perfectly when making its debut on stage. (Love Harriet's Banana Necklace? Buy it here!) After weeks of secret preparation in our East London studio, our Fibonacci Soixante Neuf Necklace and Head Piece were ready to hit the stage at Shakespeare's Globe! ... And here they are! After appearing in a carnival style costume for the first round, Miss Neon Natal took the crowd by storm in high heels, some rather saucy pants and our oversized accessories. The halo like '6' headpiece references classic Byzantine icons, whilst the matching '9' necklace pays tribute to the wonder of Fibonacci numbers which appear everywhere in nature from pinecones to shells - and even mankind itself. Of course, our hearts belonged to Jonny (especially in this neon get up!) but we fell in love with every contestants' costumes, too. Each one emerged onto the hallowed stage of the Globe in a glorious riot of colour, glitter and, erm, inflatable rubber... We even spotted host Grayson Perry striking a pose for the cameras backstage with Harriet and Jonny! After the amazing winner Miss Zero + was crowned in a signature Andrew Logan tiara, Alternative Miss World ended as all good parties should with a mass singalong and dancing on the stage of the Globe. The only pageant where the grand prize has been won by a robot, Alternative Miss World is a joyous celebration of being completely unique - whoever you are. ‘The effect of Alternative Miss World spreads around the world. It’s like throwing a pebble in the pool. The ripples go out then settle and emerge again when the time is right."

- Andrew Logan
