Young Women's Trust Emergency Fund
April 07, 2020 - Rosie Wolfenden
We are living in strange and uncertain times and as Team Tatty settles into new routines and working from home we realise many are hugely unsettled and struggling with the status quo. Last week we spotted a tweet by Sophie Walker announcing Young Women’s Trust’s Emergency Fund so we immediately picked up the phone and found out how we could get involved.
Young Women’s Trust is a feminist organisation campaigning for economic justice for young women by raising their voices, challenging sexist stereotypes and rebuilding workplaces free from discrimination. Over the last few months we have been working with them on an exciting project which we look forward to revealing later this year - so watch this space...
. . . BUT in the meantime they urgently need our help NOW, so starting today until the end of April we will donate £2* of every order you place to their Emergency Fund, putting money directly in the hands of young women facing financial crisis, helping them buy essentials like food and pay their rent. The crisis is expected to peak over the next week, so there is no time like the present.
With your support we hope to help at least twenty women whether it’s as simple as providing weekly food shops or helping further with utility bills and essentials.
Here’s how your donations will help:
£27 could provide a weekly food shop for one young woman
£66 could enable a young woman to pay her gas and electricity bill for a month
£150 will support a young woman with essentials for the next few weeks
“Young women in low-paid work will be among the hardest hit by coronavirus and many of them are already telling us they’re worried about how they are going to pay their rent, utilities and even feed their children over the coming weeks. That’s why we have set up our young women’s emergency fund – aiming to raise over £100,000 – and provide immediate financial relief to help these young women. We are grateful that even in a time of economic crisis for many businesses, Tatty Devine and their customers have chosen to support the work we are doing and stand in solidarity with young women.”
Sophie Walker - Young Women's Trust, CEO
“As a business we have been enormously supported by the government's initiatives in this crisis, but we are hugely aware that much of the support does not reach many desperately in need, whether on zero hour contracts or faced with no work and with others to care for. It is for this reason we want to stand in solidarity with young women facing financial crisis and support them during this critical time.”
Rosie Wolfenden - Tatty Devine, Co-founder and Managing Director
