‘Don’t wear beige – it could kill you!’ These are the wise words of Sue Kreitzman, one of our favourite artists and the leader of the anti-beige brigade. This London-based New Yorker creates amazing paintings and assemblages featuring bold colour and unwanted objects (our Junk Memory SS12 range was inspired by her work!). She is often seen sporting Tatty Devine – and even commissions neckpieces assembled from Tatty Devine jewellery from her friend, Amanda Caines, such as the giant eye necklace Sue wore to our studio this week.

Sounds familiar? You might have already seen Sue on Advanced Style. We love this blog, which profiles the most glam and stylin’ older ladies around, and now there’s a book to go with it. We got together with Sue to make a spectacular necklace that she could wear to the launch party. As she said:  ’You’ve heard of being dressed up to the nines. For this party everyone’s going to be dressed up to the fifteens!’.

Sue came to our Brick Lane studio to finish making her one-of-a-kind necklace. This is the original sketch from Harriet, outlining the idea for the piece.

Harriet and Sue hard at work assembling the necklace (check out Harriet in her Christopher Kane galaxy print top!)

This is an image of Sue’s head being etched into leather in our laser cutter (that’s also how we make our Frida Kahlo necklaces, another maverick female artist.) As her eyes were drawn by the machine, the light from the laser flashed, leading Sue to gleefully proclaim ‘It’s possessed!’. The finished piece features lightning bolt charms like glittering thought waves flashing from her head.

We also made Sue these matching lightning bolt earrings. The only request that we couldn’t make happen was for the necklace to light up, although how amazing would that be? Watch this space for electrified Tatty Devine in 2032..

This is Sue in her studio, putting the finishing touches on her laser-cut double. Some silver paint for her hair, and the necklace is all done.

Wondering what she’s holding up? It’s a humble cocktail stick, which is her favourite tool for making art. It’s also a star here at Tatty (as you’ll know if you’ve read our ‘How to Make Jewellery‘ book). We go through hundreds in our studios.

Sue’s studio is a real wonderland. We’re doing a photo shoot there later this month, but here’s a sneak peek at one of the amazing objects scattered all around.

How amazing is this 1950s sequinned pin work? Harriet is a huge fan!

Sue looking glamorous, working the finished necklace at the big bash that night.

Harriet and Rosie also went to the Advanced Style party and met Ari Seth Cohen, the author of the blog and book. We totally love his pink suit!

Want to see more of Sue? Get your diaries out because she’s got an upcoming exhibition in October. ‘Dare to Wear’ will be at the Crypt Gallery at St Pancras Church, an atmospheric underground space. This is one event you won’t want to miss – think over the top, in your face, unfettered flamboyance!

Would you like to win your own copy of the Advanced Style book? We’re giving one away, along with a MEGA name necklace like Sue’s.

For a chance to win, all you need to do is tell us what your ideal (big!) name necklace would look like.

Let us know what word you’d choose, and which colour is your absolute fave – will it be gold mirror, red glitter, peach melba? (absolutely no beige allowed!) Would you have a charm? You can mock up your necklace here on our website. All you need to do is tell us all about it in the comments below to enter the competition. The competition will close on Friday 15th June at 11am. Ready, steady, go!

  1. Sarah Livermore says:

I’m a big fan of the Muppets so my ideal necklace would be the word ‘Muppet’ in lime green (Kermit coloured!), Billboard font with a star charm to show that they will always be stars to me. Also a gold chain, Muppets deserve nothing less than gold!

Sadly, I was not born a Muppet but this necklace would prove that I should have been!

  2. Emma says:

Love the Muppet necklace idea! But I would have to go with a mega “Meow” necklace in honor of my cat Sophie who I had for 19 years. Sophie was coal black but she was fabulous so I think she would want my Meow necklace in bright blue ladybug font with a gold chain and a bird charm just to be cheeky.

  3. Kimberley Ritchie says:

I’m fasinated by weird and random words which aren’t used in the language any more, and I’ve recently come across “Scintillate” which means to emit flashes of light/sparkly. So using this I’d love to have “SCINTILLATE” in a name necklace in the Ladybug font, with the Glitter Silver colour and a star charm. It would be fun to see people react when I tell them what the word means, and that the necklace is based and designed using the words meaning.

There are some awesome words which are no longer used which I’d love to try and bring back! =D

  4. Kimberley Ritchie says:

I was also mean to add on a sliver chain into that last comment. (Sorry…)

  5. Laura says:

I’m an avid user of Twitter, and I find small birds really quite adorable, so I’d love “TWITTWOO” (I know it’s not a small bird call but “Tweet Tweet” didn’t look as good when designed on the Name Necklace page).
So I’d have “TWITTWOO” in the Billboard font, Bright Blue colour, Silver chain and with the blue bird charm. It would just be so cute!

  6. SarahF says:

I’d love a BIG name necklace in Ladybug font with a black chain and star charm which said ‘Queenie’ in gold glitter. Is that a new colour? Don’t remember seeing it previously! It’s amazing.

This would be to commemorate my playing Elizabeth I in ‘Blackadder II’ earlier this year (I looked resplendent onstage in my Tatty Deco Pearl necklace!) Also it seems appropriate given the recent jubilee of my cousin Elizabeth II, and I’d love to layer it with one of the Selfridges pieces. I’m sending a globe-trotting friend to pick up the gold crown necklace instore for me next month!

  7. Emma Gallimore-Martin says:

My all time style Icon is Lily Munster. Ever since I was a little girl all I have ever wanted to be was her. I have the black and white hair, still working on the green skin and smoking figure! lol! So my ideal necklace would have to be “MsMunster” in the bloody font, pale pink to match the colour of Lily’s iconic dress with a gold chain.

  8. Kristina says:

I would have “LoveShack” in red glitter Sundae font with a heart shaped charm and gold chain, in honour of one of the best songs EVER. If I ever own my own house, this will go on the door to welcome my friends :D

  9. HeikeS says:

Everyday I made something and so I`m thinking my ideal necklace would be the word
“MsCrafty” in glitter purple and in the sundae font with a star, a flash and silver chain.
    Good luck, everybody!

  10. Georgia says:

I’m known for being a dippy blonde so I suppose my ideal necklace would be one saying BLONDIE in bright yellow of course xoxo

  11. Evie May says:

Mine would have to be the word ‘trouble’ in capital letters in glitter purple with a lightning bolt charm with a gold chain, if you’re going to make a big necklace it should surely be a warning and statement to the world right ;) xx

  12. Diana says:

I adore Sue Kreitzman! What an amazing lady! :)

I’d love a giant necklace which reads “PhotoGeek” in purple glitter. As a photographer, I turn into such a nerd at the slightest mention of film, cameras or lights so it would serve as a warning to others as well as a brilliant style statement! ;) I would choose the ladybird font for cuteness, but the charm would be difficult to choose – would it be a lightening bolt as a nod to flash, or a heart to show my love? As much as I love it, the bolt just might edge in for coolness. :)

  13. Natalie says:

I’d have Bride in pale blue ladybug font, with a white heart charm and a silver chain. No prizes for guessing I’ll be wearing it for my wedding as my ‘something blue’. :3

  14. Becca says:

My necklace would read ‘Boops’ which is the nickname my Dad gave me when I was a little girl and I don’t see him nearly enough!
It would have to be glittery red with a heart charm on with a gold chain.
    :-)
    xxx

  15. Emma Richardson says:

Would definitely have to be the word ‘Anemone’, mainly because it’s such a weird word, but also because it features in a beautiful lyric from a song by one of my favourite bands, Everything Everything. Their music rocks my socks. I’d have it nice and BIG, in yellow (a nice sunny colour, why not) with an extended length gold chain. Perfection, i say!

  16. Cheryl says:

My family call me ‘Cherrybobs’ because I had big rosy cheeks as a child (and still do!). I’d love a name necklace saying ‘Cherrybobs’ in the ladybug font and red glitter letters, with a little cherry charm :-)

  17. Charlotte says:

I would have in black glitter Billboard and a star charm (obviously!) with black chain… because I still want to be an astronaut.

  18. Charlotte says:

I would have ASTRO in black glitter Billboard and a star charm (obviously!) with black chain… because I still want to be an astronaut.

  19. Holly Parish says:

Black glitter, on a gold chain with a lightening bolt charm in sundae font saying ‘Blondie’ as I think it’s very ftting for our legendary frontwoman Debbie Harry and Blondie my favourite band.

  20. Sarah Burbidge says:

After having a spinal cord tumour removed 4 years ago and dealing with the consequences of that on a daily basis, my name necklace would be simple “SURVIVOR” in glitter red with a heart charm – because thats what I am and very proud of it – a survivor!!

  21. stacey b says:

my necklace would say Blether! which is a scottish word for someone who talks a lot and sums me up as a person, i think if i stop talking i stop breathing!
would definately have to be a big name necklace, in turquoise with an aqua glitter star charm and silver chain.

  22. Would have to be LadyGautier (as I am known at work!), would use ladybug font with no charm in yellow as its my absolute fav colour :)

  23. thebruteclub says:

Well hunty, there aint no club like thebruteclub. Aaand it would be in LIME GREEN (goes well with beige, shhh,,,) ;)

  24. Claire Low says:

The word would be “Oniomania”, the word for an addiction to shopping. This condition has plagued me all my life, so why not celebrate it?. I even style a column called Shopaholic. Lots of people don’t know the word Oniomania, so my bling could be educational. It would be huge, it would be gold and sparkly (like the piles of money I need to satisfy my insane cravings for new goodies at all times). Maybe it would incorporate some of those acrylic dollar bills Tatty Devine made a couple of seasons ago. There would also be charms hanging from some of the letters: charms like leopards and handbags and pens. Things I can’t stop buying.

  25. Georgina says:

I must be an old-fashioned kinda gal as my name necklace would actually be my name (sorta). I’d have GEORGE ROCKS emblazoned in red glitter, billboard, slung around my neck with a fat gold chain and as many lightning bolts as you could fit on it. Yes!

If ever I was feeling a bit, y’know, blue (I’m thinking Monday morning commute) I’d just glance down and feel full of kick-ass, Tatty D, power.

Oh, and check out the Tatty piece on my blog picture (I’m the one on the right).

  26. Laura says:

I’d have ravelment as it’s how I feel about my exams! :(

  27. Amy Betteridge says:

I would get ‘StrangeasAngels’ in Sundae, silver mirror with a glitter mirror star. I love The Cure and this quote from Just Like Heaven really speaks to me. Having been bullied for being odd and different I really find courage that the quirky people in the world could be as strange as angels.

  28. zuz says:

Does ‘ideal’ equal ‘theoretically possible according to the website’? :) Let’s hope not because I just dreamed up this monstrosity: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5gy4oe8EP1qe8ynlo1_500.png ! Explanation: 2NE1 is my favourite kpop band, and their fans call themselves blackjacks, so having four charms with suit of cards would be great! Also using very few letters would hopefully ensure it is really HUGE. I’d love it with a chunky gold chain like on the tiger or Aarrghhhh necklace, with every letter hung up individually (but in the bunting necklace way not in Aarrghhhh way if that makes sense). I would definitely not mind it all being in red/black glitter for the added pizazz as well (my mockup in glitter did not look very appealing though so I just stayed with normal colours)!

  29. Jennifer Reid says:

My dream name necklace would be my name as my housemate calls me : Jennifaaaaaaaaaaah in a similar style to the “oooooh” necklace so the my name would wrap all the way around my neck in individual letters instead of one big word joined together. Probably in black Perspex. Then the chain would be made up of lots of different colourful beads and charms, I am a museum curator, so i love stuff and things! I suppose a bit like the junk memory bead necklace, but on a gold coloured chain for a bit of added bling.

  30. JGRuddock says:

I would *love* to create a name necklace to a great Australian art and fashion icon, Ken Done. Ken, now aged in his 70s and still wearing colour boldly today, helped bring Australia on the global map with his colourful, bold and kitsch designs of the 1980s.

The necklace would say ‘KenDone’ in Ladybug BIG size, yellow (our favourite colour). Ideally it would even have his moustached face attached!

With Ken, last year, we raised over $25,000 for refugees living in Australia. I did this by wearing his vintage fashion everyday (plus heaps of Tatty Devine). It just shows what you can achieve with art and hope! xo

  31. Clare says:

Being fiercely proud of where I’m from (and, my boyfriend tells me, having the accent to match!) I would have ‘Dorset’ in Glitter Blue on a silver chain with an anchor because I love the seaside. I’d wear it with pride and show everyone how much I love this County!

  32. Charlotte says:

I would ask for the word ‘nachleben’

Nachleben is a term coined by the german art historian Aby Warburg, which means, the afterlife of an image. As an art historian, I always look for images, any images, that have life of their own. That’s also the reason why I love Tatty Devine so much. The Frida Kahlo line of this season is a perfect example of this. Her image that we saw in her art gets a second life in jewelry.

I would make it big, in lady bug lettering, with no charms at all. If I could have anything at all, the necklace itself would have bunting flags on it, because I feel art should be celebrated. Colorfull bunting with a black NACHLEBEN necklace, that would be my dream!

  33. Lauren Cooke says:

I keep swinging between various options, but in the end I’ve come back to my very first choice. I like things that are both a bit witty, and kind of ostentatiously tongue-in-cheek – so I’d quite like to wear the word “buzzword” (in billboard font) across my chest. Plus, I work in social media – buzzwords are the bane of our existence! I think a little lightening charm would suit, and because I currently can’t get enough of neon, yellow would be my shade of choice.

  34. Laura says:

Mine would read “delicious”, in Sundae lettering and glitter aqua with heart charm!
And obviously, it would be BIG!!

  35. Bethany says:

My dream necklace (that I think about regularly!) in glitter aqua that says ‘FAT’ in the ‘bloody’ font, because it’s in-your-face, gnarly, obnoxious and proud. And that’s my approach to my body! SO instead of wearing my heart on my sleeve, I want to wear it around my neck!

  36. Susie says:

    SHAME/JOY
in BIG Billboard in Paech Melba. The two axis of life. And love love love the leather etching of SK so would have two smaller ones of my face expressing shame/joy. And then some fruits around the necklace – why not? It would be ACE.

  37. Susie says:

    Or CHATBAG.

  38. Nina says:

I would probably be old-school and get my 16-year-old-club-kid nickname, “Spookie”, as I’ve long-since lost any necklaces and bracelets that had this name on them. Hot pink perspex, the original inimitable font, and a star charm. Because I haven’t grown up at all :D

  39. Heather Wilson says:

I Wouk would want the word “Hyggelig” in lovely Peach Melba with a heart charm on it. Hyggelig is a Danish concept, so the word has a feeling rather than a meaning, it’s about feeling cozy and content amongst friends normally around a fire. A person can make you feel like it, or an entire place can make you feel like it. It makes me thing of being curled up with people you love on cold evenings around Christmas time, but more importantly, it make me think of my boyfriend :)

  40. Lise Eden says:

CHEESE! With a little slice of cheese with holes in it hanging down! Would have to be yellow wouldnt it? Pale yellow I think! :) Why cheese? Because cheese is AMAZING.
P.S Im on a diet and cant even eat cheese right now. So this would make me feel better.

  41. Sim Simpson says:

    MEXICAN STANDOFF!

  42. Charley says:

I think, not to blow my own trumpet, the word “FIERCE” I think that sums me up, my mates would agree, but in a nice vixen type of way, not an aggressive fighting type of way!

  43. Alice says:

My dream name necklace would say “Erleichda” in purple classic font, and in an ideal world it would have a yellow flower charm.

According to author Tom Robbins, “Erleichda” is an 8th century Bohemian word for “lighten up”. This year, I met a girl called Nisha who fast became a really close friend. She will be leaving for home again soon, and I’d give the necklace to her as a thank you for bringing so much colour, excitement and whiskey into my life over the last year.

She gave me a copy of Robbins’ Jitterbug Perfume – bees, jasmine flowers, beetroot… all these things will remind me of her when she’s home in New Orleans.

The purple is the closest acrylic colour to match the beetroot motif of the text, but it also matches the amethyst cover of the book, and the little yellow jasmine flower would match her perfume. Whenever she missed England, she could look at her little slice of London around her neck and think, Erleichda! Lighten up!

  44. Kirsty says:

Mine would say LEGENDARY. This is because of my fave character in How I Met Your Mother. In Turqoise. I have taken many of his catchphrases into my life. If I go out with friends I automatically text ‘suit up!’ Or if someone mentions that something is stupid to do I shout ‘challenge accepted’! Barney is an influence…but I can’t decide whether the influence is good or bad!

  45. Rebecca Needes says:

Ever since I read The Night Circus by Erin Morgernstern I’ve wanted a ‘Rêveur’ necklace – it means dreamer, and it’s what the fans of the circus call themselves. The Night Circus uses only black, white and grey, and the rêveurs dress to follow suit – but add a dash of red as a sign to each other.

So my Rêveur necklace would have to be the same – a dreamy-looking font in glitter black or shimmery white, or even better a combination of the two – black that fades into white perhaps? And then the charm in glitter red – a lighting bolt of magic? An upside-down umbrella? A stray bird crept in from one of the performances? Or maybe an array of shooting stars. What does it matter, as long as it’s magical?

  46. Heather says:

Probably mirror gold with the billboard font, “INTERVENTION”! Think it would be fab :D

  47. Sharon Mosey says:

Ahoy in Navy with a red anchor hanging from it *drools*
I’m really into the whole nautical 50′s look and this necklace would be the key item in my wardrobe. But sadly I’m just a poor art student!
Oh if only you could make my dreams come true Tatty Devine.

  48. Sionann Ni Coille says:

    Hi Guys,
I’d love to have CraicHead as my personalised TD necklace! I’d have to go with BIG letters & with orange lettering as it would pop with colour & look AMAZE with any outfit! Along with a star charm & black chain! Craic is an Irish term for fun/good times.. And I like to jazz it up & make a negative phrase into a fun one! Thanks ladies!! xx

  49. Laurel Waldron says:

My necklace would quite simply say Dream in hot pink glitter, with a star charm on a gold chain.

I have the same word posted above my bed, it reminds me that no matter how tough things seams I always have my dreams and ambitions and one day I will achieve them all. The star reminds me to shoot for the moon, at least if I miss I will end up amongst the stars :-)

  50. Holly Ashe Cunnah says:

Gotta have a Large green ‘ZOMBIE’ one with a black chain. It could be the excuse for me looking so tired all the time as I’m an insomniac. Just look at the necklace and run so I don’t eat your heart. POW.

  51. Julene Knox says:

I think I would have a necklace that read ‘Mother’ or possibly ‘Mama’ in sweet Sundae lettering as a sign of what I am but also as a reminder of my mother. I am thinking as glitzy as possible (as being a mother is often not very glamorous): glitter red plus a star charm or maybe (more mysteriously) some lightning.

  52. Natasha says:

My necklace would be a message to everyone, no matter what’ve see, age, sexuality, religion, culture…
BeYourself, it would be simple and black because the statement speaks for itself

  53. Debz Mercer says:

I’d love to win a necklace that said “Juicy” on it! I love the name necklaces. And I agree that wearing beige could kill you! :)

  54. Chocolate Teapot says:

‘TROUBLE’ in glitter gold original font with a lightning bolt and a gold chain. Everything looks better in gold…. even a bundle of trouble!

  55. Carley says:

My dream necklace would say RAGGA and would be brilliant green in colour. X

  56. Helen says:

Arh well, it’s a tad embarising, but mine would be ‘Hobbits’ as that was my nickname at the pub I worked at when I was 18. I do not have hairy feet!

  57. Naomi Sanderson says:

I would have ‘Queen of the Crows’ in the bloody font in black glitter, and if possible, a special little black crow charm.

The reason behind this is each morning I wake up, masses of messy black hair and black eye liner still applied, and I literally look like I am Queen of the Crows! It’s a look I do not plan to change!

  58. lisa tebbutt says:

i would love dark knight because my daughter is a big fan of u and dark knight xx

  59. Keri Kennedy says:

I would love to have ‘MrsK’ in extra large glitter aqua on a black chain. I’ve been married nine years next week and would have loved to be able to wear it on my wedding day back then.

  60. Sally Lau says:

I would have ‘Sushi’ in glitter red, ladybug font with no charm, on a gold chain! Sushi is one of my favourite foods and I’d love to go to Japan one day!

  61. I think would have to be “Cosmic” in turquoise with a glittery pink star!
If I were going all out like Sue it would be dripping with star and planet charms, namely Saturn! Lots of blue/pink/yellow tones and glitter, silver chains to fasten, and extra loops of chain hanging down in little loops to add some business and depth. I’d want it out of this world!
    <3

  62. Ángela Fernández says:

I’d like it in Peach Melba, with no charm, ”original” lettering and two lines: ”Psychedelic ” (the first one) ”killer” (2nd).

  63. Nicole Lawler says:

Can I get a ‘Booyah!’ Just cause it’s a great word to shout. And in mirrored gold because Sue is totally right – Don’t be beige.

  64. Martha says:

Definitely ‘CleverGirl’ – a Jurassic Park quote (I am dino obsessed!) I’m also a proud ‘clever girl’ so works 2 ways :) Glitter red sundae lettering with a heart of course <3

  65. I would like my childhood nickname “Ginna” on a necklace before it gets lost in the past. It would look nice in black with original lettering, and with a gold glitter bow (Or most wanted: With a white glitter skull!)

  66. Teleri Jones says:

I would love to have CWTSH in Ladybug font, in red with a little red heart.

Cwtsh means ‘hug’ in Welsh but it’s more than just your avergae English hug. A cwtsh fixes everything in life, gives you comfort, warmth and support.

Anyone who offers you a cwtsh gives the best hug. If they offer a ‘hug’, decline as it won’t sort you out like a proper cwtsh would :)

  67. Suzy says:

I’d have to go for ‘Copasetic’ in green sundae font with a star charm :) My reason is that I’m the keys/trumpet player in a ska/reggae called Copasetics…so it would be awesome to wear the necklace on stage!

Copasetic means completely satisfactory.. but it’s one of those words that loads of people ask us for the meaning of.

There aren’t many female musicians (non-front women) in the ska/reggae scene so wearing accessories that make us stand out is a really good thing. :) Plus I’m a massive Tatty Devine fan (my Suzy name necklace is amazing) so I’d love to be able to give the brand a little bit of promo via the photos of the band :)

  68. Helen says:

I would have ‘Held’, the initials of my familys first names. Would choose a glittery green, red or orange as I wear those colours all the time. Being held is also kinda fabulous…

  69. Jodie says:

It would have to be (after much careful consideration) a maroon necklace reading GARDYLOO! with an umbrella charm.
‘Gardyloo’ comes from the French ‘garde à l’eau’, meaning “Mind the water!”. It was used in Edinburgh in the days before proper sewage systems, when people chucked their *ahem* waste out of the window in the street. Gardyloo! was cried to warn people in the street below of what was heading their way…
I lived in Edinburgh for a couple of years and many drunken nights in student accommodation resulted in glasses of water (honestly, water, HONESTLY!) being thrown out of windows to cries of GARDYLOO!
It’s also one of those anecdotes that no matter how many history tours we took, how many times I read it in Horrible Histories books, it never failed to make me laugh. As a history major,it’s important to find the fun parts in history – those are the best bits! – and this is such a good ‘un.
It’s a bit gross – especially in terms of the colour I chose – but it’s also a terrific amount of fun!

  70. Karen lehmann says:

I’m very proud of where I come from so I would love a name necklace with Scottish on it in glitter blue colour. I’d love some small flags going up or hanging from the chain which I would like to be chunky silver and a wee glitter blue heart hanging from it. This would be awesome!! :-)

  71. Jess stevenson says:

I would like ‘tinks’ as my dad has always called me tinks as he says im his tinkerbell fairy! Would be nice to wear my nickname on a necklace and would cheer my dad up!

  72. Celia says:

I often get called ‘ Frenchy ‘ as I am, you guessed it… from France!

So would have the word ‘Frenchy’ with the anchor charm in the colour Turquoise simply because I love this colour :) with a sliver chain and the sundae font.

This way with my lovely necklace when people say “hey Frenchy” I can say “Yep that’s me!” ;)

And it can also be a good conversation starter haha

  73. KEEP CALM AND WEAR CORSETS in the shape of a corset..

  74. Sara says:

My name necklace would have to say ‘ShutUp&Deal’ – the final line Shirley Maclaine says to Jack Lemmon in my favourite film The Apartment.

I would have to be mirror silver on a silver chain as Shirley Maclaine’s mirror is pretty important in the film. And the charm would either be a playing card (if possible) or simply a heart – it’s a love story after all.

It’s such a beautiful film and whenever I think of that last line (and scene) I smile, so what better to wear around my neck!

  75. Jaqueline says:

My name nacklace would have to say “Lady Knitter” – my life revolves around knitting and after recently entering into the vintage dressing scene, the Lady moniker has a new found love for me! Gold for the chain and the text would be Billboard with an anchor charm to symbolise my family’s nautical history. The colour would have to be clear though – that way whatever print or colour I am wearing gets to shine through!

  76. Emma Forsberg says:

My dream necklace would say Lynx because they are my favorite animal. Black sparkly letters with white accents silver with big cats ears and paw. They are incredibly shy cats but if you ever manage to see one: they are magnificent with pointy ears like a maine coon but the body size of a tiger. They also like to hang out in trees just like me.

  77. fleur baerten says:

Mine would say FLOWER ’cause that’s my name in english!

  78. Hayley says:

I would LOVE to have a simple yet lovely ‘Smile’ in sundae font in the stunning glitter gold on a gold chain with a heart charm!….simply because Tatty Devine puts a smile on my face and I like to wear things that make me happy and smiley! :) I <3 TD x

  79. Louise Johnson says:

Seeing as it is all about our Queen, London and the Olympics this year I would go for:

Diamond in Sundae in White with a Glitter Silver Star on a gold chain

Also, all girls love diamonds, and the bigger, the better!

  80. Sabrina says:

I’m french and I love your brand Tatty Devine!! My dream necklace would say “Superheroes”. Because it’s my favourite song, and I love Superheroes :)
(Actually, I’m one of them but shhhhh, I’m undercover ;) )

  81. Kimberley Gibbons says:

I would use the word “virago”. This word means a woman of stature, strength and courage. It can also mean an overbearing, ill- tempered and quarellesome woman. I think this word stands for alot of women..esp me!! I would use glitter red and sundae lettering. I would also opt for a lightening bolt but in a glitter silver to off set the red.

  82. Louise Johnson says:

Or I quite like the idea of Jubilate (even though it is not an actual word) in Original in Blue Glitter with a Pale Pink heart on a Silver Chain.

    Thanks!

  83. louise says:

i would love to wear a huge “red wine” around my neck, because i’m french and wine lover, especially cabernet sauvignon but it’s a little to long on a necklace so…! obviously it will be red glitter and i would also choose sundae font and gold chain.

  84. Suzanne Bell says:

Tweedlie – in billboard, green, with a lightning bolt because I spent years being teased about and embarrassed by my family name and couldn’t wait to get rid of it. I was told a romantic story of how a gt grandfather had changed it from O’Bryan while sitting on the banks of the River Tweed after a battle – a bit of digging and papers from the archives showed this to be a complete Tweed lie. He’d been a bit of a naughty boy and had re-invented himself! I want to wear my name with pride :)

  85. Zary says:

I think it would be really cool to make a big necklace with a typo idea and a colour touch. I’d go for contrasts like having the word ‘RED’ in blue(or green) colour or the other way round.
Another idea – the word ‘SHINE’ in Gold/Silver mirror.
    Cheers!

  86. Joy Elliott says:

I would love a Glitter Aqua Ladybug font necklace in silver with a heart charm that says “Joy”. Not only is it my name but I’ve decided it’s going to be my outlook for this summer after making a few big life decisions. Not original I know but it would be very special!

I would love to wear this necklace to the festivals, it would be perfectly colourful even if the sun doesn’t shine! I’m also excited at the prospect of winning the book – I am a big fan of the Advanced Style blog. Fingers crossed!

  87. Donna says:

Mine would be glitter aqua with a heart charm and it would be on a silver chain and it would say…….

    Goat Girl

Because I love goats and I need a necklace to tell everyone!

  88. Julie says:

I would chose the word ‘PAPILLON’, it means butterfly in French and also is the title of my favorite book by Henri Charriere.

I would have the name in capital letters in the original font cut from the green perspex with a matt gold anchor charm and a gold chain.

The colours are similar to the book cover I own, which holds many special memories as my dad gave it to me. Such an inspirational story of friendship, honor, adventure and hope.

  89. Katie says:

Mine would be Pity The Backseat in blue glitter Sundae writing with a heart charm.

  90. Juliette says:

My name necklace would have to be the word ‘Fabulous’ original font, in purple glitter on a silver chain. I thought long and hard about a charm, and decided that the only thing that could set off such a splendid word would be a star.

Not only is ‘Fabulous’ my absolutely favourite word (my autocorrect on my phone now recognises it from the letters ‘fa’), but it is also a complete pleasure to say. You can roll it off your tongue, elongate it, use it as an explosion of excitement , shorten it and sound deliciously retro. It is a truly glorious word, and one that should be used more often.

I chose the purple glitter, because what is less beige than purple glitter. indeed, the antithesis of beige is glitter. Plus glitter is almost ninja-esque in its powers (how often have you been convinced you are glitter free, only to find a stray twinkle!). And purple is the greatest colour out there. Plus ‘Fabulous’ is a word that needs to be writ large in regal purple and sparkles! How better to wage the war on beige!

In closing, I will leave you with the words from a little-known movie entitled ‘Vegas In Space’* about their rules ‘Glamour first, glamour last, glamour always. No rollers in public, never be seen in flats and shoot on sight anything wearing beige!’

*The movie was released by Troma, it is not good (seriously not good), but those lines are fabulous (ok, I’ve now totally overused the word), and are ones that I try to live by!

    Keep being amazingly awesome!

  91. Izzy says:

My ultimate name necklace would say “Spinster” in great, gold mirror! I think that the single lady is often stigmatized, and this glammed out version would reclaim the name and give a nod to the neatest of spinster ladies (Think Auntie Mame and Charlotte Vale)

  92. Victoria says:

I’d love a necklace that says TeamGinger in orange Perspex with the lightening charm. Being a true redhead I think everyone needs to befriend a ginger and raise awareness about how bullying people for their looks, hair colour, skin colour etc is just plain wrong. We may be redheaded and with pale skin, but we far cooler than you may realise. Vote Team Ginger!

  93. Lynsey says:

I’d love to have a mega necklace with my baby daughters name EVIE on it.Think it would have to be a purple glitter and with a birdy charm. She is a bit too small for it now,but it would be an amazing for her when she is older!Keep up the good work Tatty Devine!x

  94. Kylie says:

It has to be BARONESS darlings! In regal purple glitter billboard font. All caps for maximum effect and a bit of sweetness on the side with a bow charm. ‘Lady Baroness Cupcake’ is my full warrior name. It makes me feel strong – to be treated like a Baroness, one has to act like a Baroness ;-)

  95. Sara Norling says:

It would obviously be MINIMALIST in gold glitter, with lightning bolts and stars (hanging off every letter) in glitter silver and glitter black – ha! :)

  96. Cassie says:

Mine would be ‘Everybody Dance’ as in the Disco hit by Chic, in gold mirror with a gold mirror hand (because of the lyrics telling you to clap your hands) so that when I wore it I would feel like clapping and dancing, clearly the best activities.

  97. Raquel González says:

”LOLita”, in Glitter Red, sundae font, with a golden chain and a heart charm!

  98. Keren says:

My mega name necklace would say ‘Anything’ signifying that anything is possible in this world and that individually we can achieve anything and be anything that we want. I also like that it’s ambiguous – each person that sees it would think of a different ‘Anything’ depending on their life and experiences.

I would use Billboard font as I like that the ‘I’ disappears! Colour: Glitter black to give it a ‘galaxy’ feel with a red star charm (or maybe 3 hanging one below the other!).

  99. Aggie says:

Haha it would have to be FRECKLES, it’s what I get called if I’ve been naughty.
And in any colour that’s super bright! (orange to match the hair?)
    Love you Tatsters x Aggie

  100. Clare says:

I love Advanced Style, I think I would fit right in with those gals, they just have thirty plus years on me.

I would have the word ‘gusset’ – it is is my favourite word and I think it needs some more positive attention. It would be in silver glitter, in Ladybug font and no charm to detract from the phonetic loveliness of the word.

  101. kellie says:

i think i would have to have ‘luvlyjubbly’ in 3-wheeled van yellow as i am always attempting something new to try and make a few quid but often just end up feeling like a plonker! haha!

  102. kim says:

my necklace would say klassy in tortoiseshell with bird charm and a black chain. i choose the word klassy cos a i am klassy woman but with a k not a c as i am kickass too

  103. cheryl says:

I’d pick DanceMagicDance from the song in the film The Labyrinth. I’m 29 and I first saw it when I was around 5 and I still love it, so much so I named my little boy Toby after the baby :) in black glitter, original writing with a star charm.xx

  104. Holly says:

I would probably have to have ‘Ardorkable’ as I’m obsessed with the TV Show ‘New Girl’ and the necklace would perfectly some up my fashion choice. Plus it would go with my tatty divine glasses necklace perfectly!

    :)

  105. Lisa Hall says:

I have only just started my collection of Tatty Devine which I think are FAB by the way!!
Mine would have to be TULIPS in purple on a silver chain with a heart. This is in memory of my dad who passed away last year. He loved tulips and this would be a fantastic memory of him!

  106. Abigail says:

Mine would say ‘Violet’ in a lilac colour – it’s the name of my lovely Nana who recently passed away. She was such a strong woman and a great inspiration!

  107. Aline says:

My perfect big name necklace would be the word EMPIRE, in red, billboard font. The word itself sounds and feels big, red is a powerful colour and billboard is definitely the font you need to make a statement. It all breathes empire. (a silver chain and ‘no charm’ would complete the design) I love the idea of expressing my love for music (Empire is the name of a song by Kasabian) through jewellery instead of your regular band tshirt. It allows you to be a lot more creative with your outfit while still showing off your love for the band. I imagine it would turn some heads on the festival grounds. x

  108. Stephanie says:

I think my ideal necklace would have to to be a mega sized ‘milquetoast’ in red sundae font… because i’m a little timid and shy, i might as well have my excellent necklace do the talking for me :)

  109. Kelly says:

I’d I’dI’d have ‘Eternity’ in honor of Arthur Stace – an ex-alcoholic who used to write it in copperplate script on footpaths in Sydney in the 1930s. (http://en.wiWkipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Stace) –
I’d love to see it in Kelly green glitter…

  110. Julie Anne says:

I would adore to have “Coin-Operated” but that’s too big so instead “Grrrl” in glitter red, ladybug, silver chain and no charm. Awesome Sauce.

  111. Eve says:

I would either get ‘FANTASIA’ in glitter blue billboard with a star charm, or ‘Labyrinth’ in tortoiseshell sundae with no charm, after my favourite films! I’m both a huge Jim Henson and Bowie fan, and they were both huge parts of my childhood :)

  112. Jo Hatty says:

Love Tatty Divine designs. My neckalce would say ‘ Meanwhile…’ in ladybug font, turquoise with a black chain. I like that this word is vague but implies all sorts of things. Things going on in your head, or elsewhere on the planet. You read the word and are immediately transported by your imagination :)

  113. Kaylea says:

Mine would be in black glitter saying “Pit Crew” I wouldn’t have a charm unless Tatty could create a little motorbike charm. It would go perfectly with my fella’s bike and make me fit in more when I go watch him racing around on the track with his friends x

  114. Lily says:

I have recently moved to Berlin from a city in Ireland and it’s been a huge cultureshock. I moved here for my boyfriend of 5 years as he got a job here and things were getting too serious to be apart. I would pick the word ‘Adventure’, because it really has been, and I hope to have so many more adventures in my life. It’s a word that will always be relevant to me. I would choose Sundae as it’s such a beautiful typeface and would choose a little lightningbolt charm (because I had never seen lightning until I moved here and it’s very common dring Berlin summers- and it’s amazing!). I would pick the Glitter black because it looks like a sky full of stars- perfect :) !

  115. Kerrieanne says:

Mine would say ”sparkle” in pink sparkles as everyone deserves to sparkle and shine and feel devine :) Also my friend calls me Sparkle and its toooo cute <3 xxx

  116. Polly says:

I’d have ‘ME’ in peach melba on a gold chain, no dangly bits. That’s who I am just ‘me’ my own person.

  117. Cathryn Daws says:

II would have littlepaperswans for my necklace as it’s the name of my fashion blog and I’m really proud of how well my blog is doing in it’s first year. I think I would have red glitter as you can’t go wrong with a bit of bright red glitter!! Oooohhh I really want the necklace now!!! I’m going to go and make one up on your website I think :) xxx

  118. Helen says:

Oooh, it’s difficult to pick just one word! I think I’d go with the word “devotchka” in the orange Billboard font, with a black lightning bolt charm and a black chain.
The word is slang for “girl” in one of my favourite books/movies of all time, A Clockwork Orange (hence the orange font).

I think the orange would look really cool offset with the black charm/chain, and I think the Billboard font captures the feel of the movie (Although the Original font also looked really good and fitting too).

  119. Toni says:

I would love a name necklace with my boyfriends ‘sailor name’ – Smokey, in Bright blue, sundae font on a silver chain and an anchor charm…of course. He bought me an anchor necklace, in blue, after he discovered my love of all things Tatty Devine- which I normally wear everyday. Love all things Tatty Devine xx

  120. Isabelle says:

This is what mine would be like

    Dandy
A standard size necklace in original
    lettering in glitter blue
    Lightning bold charm
    Silver coloured chain

I am totally obsessed with Oscar Wilde and I think he’d definitely love the way you design such fantastic, eclectic jewelry; So in a way this necklace would be a way to honor him (and do me a favor hehe) tnx!

  121. erica pease says:

Without a doubt it would have to be the best word to describe me and my life: BROUHAHA in Billboard. It would have to be mirror gold and it would simply have to have the lightning charm in glitter gold all topped off with a gold chain. Lovely x

  122. Sarah says:

I would choose the Scot’s word ‘Wheesht’ ( meaning ‘be quiet’) . I would choose glitter blue to represent the rain and the blue of the saltire. The charm i would choose is of course an umbrella for obvious reasons :)

  123. Sarah says:

Oh how I would love love love a ‘CRABBY’ with a little baby crab charm (I can dream can’t I!) in broadway and tortoise shell (love) with a black chain. It’s my namesake. Despite regular hints to anyone who’ll listen I don’t have a name necklace to add to my collection, i’ve only ever bought them for other people :-( purlease???? xxx

  124. Emma Neville says:

Hello, I would have to say that I would love it red glitter the word CAVEBEAR. I recently had my first baby and i got her name as a small one. I can wear it now and when she is older she can have it. I want CAVEBEAR because when my little one is hungry she growls and makes some funny noises like a little baby bear. I would have to have a love heart charm and a black chain. Then mummy and baby could each have a necklace of Tatty Devine! In a nice clear easy read font. Nothing too fancy as its all about the CAVEBEAR!
    Emma and baby Isla <3

  125. Laura says:

    My necklace would say “Roygbiv’.

Not only is it an acronym for the hue sequence of a rainbow, it is also the title one of my favourite songs by Boards of Canada (which sounds like someone has bundled up my childhood memories, juiced them and pured them into my ears- instant nostalgia!)

My necklace would be matte silver (every cloud has a silver lining!). In ‘Sundae’ font, with an umbrella charm (to tie in with the rainbow theme, of course!), and on a silver chain.

I’m moving into the big, bad world of university internships later this month, and this necklace would remind me that although the future may seem scary, I still have the comfort of all the lovely things that have happened in my past.

  126. Eleri Williams says:

My dream necklace would be “CARIAD” in original font, in bright pink. I’d have a heart charm, on the letter “D” in black glitter. Cariad is the Welsh for sweetheart / love and I just adore how it sounds when it’s said x

  127. Emily says:

I’d have IdI’d have ‘babyshark’ in glitter pink with a star hanging. It’s the name my bestfriend call eachother. The star is for all the amazing time we had at a space themed scout camp in 2010. I’d give it to her and treat myself to a matching one. :)

  128. Emma says:

I’d have “MrsBaker” in white with a little purple heart hanging from it. I loved the necklace you did for Giovanna Fletcher and I want one to wear for my wedding in September!!

  129. Laura says:

I would go for something simple that I could wear with everything. On that note, I would have my name (Laura) in Sundae font, gold chain, bright pink (or lime green), and with the bird charm.

  130. Philippa says:

I would have ‘philgirlworld’ in gold mirror, cos im just a phil girl in her world doing her thang – like every tatty devine girl should!

  131. Lorna Pring says:

I would have ‎”Trouble” – It’s been my nickname since I was a kid – for some reason, when people see me coming they say, “Here comes Trouble!” – If I had a beautiful purple glitter ‘Trouble’ name necklace with an umbrella charm – people would at least have advanced warning (does what it says on the tin!)

  132. Jenni Sutcliffe says:

I would love my nickname Sutters in glitter gold…ladybug font…with a little star to represent my mum – the biggest star in my life! :)

  133. Sally sutton says:

Wellwell Doolaley is my nickname so always fancied that in gold glitter. Though I’ve always been a fan of catchphrases and two I like that fit onto a necklace would be Basil Brushes ‘BoomBoom’ or ‘BringmeSunshine’ in yellow with a pair of black glasses hanging from it. Big fan Morecambe & Wise OR just ‘Morecambe’ with a pair of black glasses hanging off it :) love Keith lemon too and his catch phrase ‘Shit-Ting’ but not sure I’ll get many opportunities to wear it but…….. :) I love any of the above as they would all put a smile on my face if I looked at them, Thanks Tatty x :)

  134. Holz says:

Rock&Roll in silver glitter on black chain with lightening bolt

  135. Jo H says:

It would say ‘Deej’ in BIG Original Font, silver mirror with a bow charm. On a silver chain. I’d like this name because it’s what someone very special calls me (it’s an abbreviation of my name and what I do) who I don’t get to see as often as I’d like and it would make me smile whenever I looked at it and remember the good times we have when we do get to see each other. x

  136. Miss Holly says:

Mine would say YEAH! in gold mirror, on billboard with a gold chain and no charm.

  137. Pete says:

mine would say benefit in baby pink on a gold chain with a heart charm in ladybug as my girlfrriend works for and loves benefit cosmetics and as she loves tatty devine and works a lot she could proudly display it all day when shes working
