2012 Review of the Year

2012 Review of the Year

Charlotte Prichard, 31 December 2012

This year has been completely amazing for Tatty Devine. Thank you to everyone for all the support you've shown us! The year started in January with an entire Tatty Devine wall and workshop in Selfridges' Concept Store. Taking a lasercutter into a department store was really exciting. In February we were in the news after publishing a blog titled 'Can You Spot The Difference?', comparing high street jewellery to our own. Rosie's highlight of the year was speaking live on Radio 4 afterwards, about how important originality is in our designs. A lawyer had been invited on to argue against Rosie, but she turned him round and, live on air, he said we had a very good case. It was really empowering. In March, we gave a talk at a British Library event called Inspiring Entrepreneurs. Watch it for a potted history of Tatty Devine. Our jewellery was produced in solid silver for the first time, with the launch of the Fine collection. Look out for some very exciting developments in the Fine collection in Spring 2013, with the introduction of gold and rose gold. Harriet's highlight of the year was the Colette Carnaval in Paris, a huge festival to celebrate the 10th birthday of the original concept store, Colette. It was so cool to be in Paris and be part of something that changed the face of fashion. And to work with Sarah Lerfel, who is the powerhouse behind it all.

Our stores had mini makeovers this year. Brick Lane is now big and bright:

And we installed a lasercutter at our Monmouth Street store, to make Name Necklaces on the spot. We celebrated with a whole week of fun offers. Here's Kara in her Kara Guevara necklace she made for 'Nickname Wednesday'. (We're very sad that Kara has to go back to Australia next year - we love you Kara.)

Our favourite new superstar Azealia Banks wore our Eyelash Sunglasses at the Hackney Weekend, then requested lots of Liquorice Name Necklaces for her fans.

Kate Nash summed up the summer's vortex of fashion excitement around our Eyelash Sunglasses with this image:

And Susie Bubble spent a day in the studio with Harriet, making the ultimate floral headband. We love the blog she wrote afterwards.

We celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with crystal-studded Crown Tiaras:

And to mark the Olympics we made this Medal Necklace which let anybody be number one:

Going to Japan was cool. We took over the Moma design store in Tokyo, and met lots of Japanese fans.

In our capacity as an official sponsor of the London Rollergirls, we made them a whole rainbow of Pride necklaces for Pride London. Because that's what sponsors do.

You came along to lots of workshops, to learn how to make jewellery with us.

Louise Gray sent models down the catwalk in Tatty Devine at London Fashion Week. Look out for the resulting jewellery collection, which launches in Spring 2013.

Also for London Fashion Week, we created this Minnie Mouse inspired necklace which was auctioned off for charity. Our production manager Becki did all the fiddly work of creating hundreds of eyes - here she is testing out the sheer weight of the necklace!

Hoxton Street Monster Supplies asked us to create some monstrous jewellery to support the Ministry of Stories. "Uurghhh," we said. "We'd love to!"

We ended the year with the creation of a Name Necklace Now hut inside Selfridges.

And with a whole festive room of Tatty Devine at Somerset House. It's open until 6th January, so there's still time to pop in.

We haven't even mentioned the Guardian Weekend, Fashion Day at Hackney House during the Olympics,  or our pop-ups in Paris and Taiwan.

We've also done lots of stuff behind the scenes this year, like moving mail order operations to  a little unit next to our Kent workshop. So now when you order online, your jewellery is packed and sent from Kent, near to where Harriet grew up.

Thank you so much for being into Tatty Devine this year. And if you've just discovered us, welcome to our world.

STOP PRESS: Tatty Devine have been awarded MBEs in the New Year Honours list. Read more.
