Tatty Devine takes a Tutti Frutti trip with Bompas and Parr
We're big fans of architectural foodsmiths Bompas and Parr here at Tatty Devine HQ! As the temperatures soared and the rain clouds disappeared, we took a Bank Holiday trip to Kew Gardens to experience the jelly mongers' latest project, the Tutti Frutti Boating Experience. The iconic Palm House Pond has been transformed into a giant boating lake as part of the IncrEdibles summer festival. We grabbed our fluoro bright life jackets (so this season!) and limbered up for a genteel row. Each intrepid explorer was handed a pair of magical refracting glasses to don inside the banana grotto at the heart of the pond. We couldn't resist giving them a sneaky try... "Row, row, row your boat..." We glided inside the Banana Grotto... ...and found ourselves in a mysteriously sparkling tunnel, complete with shining bananas dangling from the ceiling! Time for a stroll onto the Pineapple Island itself. Have you ever seen a more beautiful bromeliad? (That's pineapple to you and me...) The pineapple was surrounded with plants which were cleverly wired up to create an interactive soundscape to mimic the way plants 'talk to each other'. We spotted this fine fellow growing in the tropical temperatures of the glasshouse! "Look up!" The fruity theme even extended to the gift shop, which was festooned with hanging treats: Thanks to Bompass and Parr for such a fruit-tastic day out! The Tutti Frutti Boating Experience runs until 1st September at Kew Gardens.
