Art Thinking With Rosie

“At the centre of everything we do at Tatty Devine, it’s art. It’s in the way Harriet and I think, and it’s the same for our customers: we share a passion for being engaged in culture, ideas, art and self-expression. They don’t want to conform, they wear jewellery to make a statement whether political or personal - there is an irony, a rebellion and a blurring of high and low culture.” - Rosie Wolfenden MBE, Co-founder.
Capturing the crossover between brands and the art world, our Co-founder, Rosie, joined Vadim Grigoryan on the Art Thinking Podcast sofa to discuss where Tatty Devine sit in this intersection.
Collaboration is at the heart of our jewellery making process, something wonderful happens when two creative identities come together to make something that wouldn’t otherwise exist.

You can weld aesthetics, techniques, ideas, audiences in ways that will never be pigeon holed.
When talking about her favourite collaboration, Rosie talks of love she had for working with artist Rob Ryan, known for his paper cuts and romantic way with words. Back in 2008, he crafted 4 new papercuts with spaces left for the acrylic jewellery we designed together as part of the series. It was beautiful, one depicted his heart, one Rosie’s and one, Harriet’s.

Collaborating with like-minded people who are original leaders in their field to create designs that surprise and delight is key for Rosie and Harriet in 1999. They both need to feel excited and enthused by their work with a clear vision of what the jewellery might be.
“Art is our first love. We also love cinema, music, theatre, literature, all art forms really.” - Rosie Wolfenden MBE, Co-founder
With partnerships reaching to musicians and organisations, their art and work can help carry a message or engage an audience. During Frieze Week and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, new limited edition artworks designed to support Vital Arts, the charitably-funded arts organisation for Barts Health NHS Trust, will be unveiled and available to purchase in Tatty Devine’s flagship store. 10% of proceeds donate to CoppaFeel!, the UK’s only youth focused breast cancer awareness charity.
Nearly a decade after a landmark installation at Royal London Hospital, Tatty Devine’s first site-specific commission, these newly released limited editions bring the same joyful elements to a wider audience. First on display in Covent Garden on 16th October: view mesmerising explosions of colourful, reflective, and glittering shapes encapsulated in these works.

This collaboration between Tatty Devine and Vital Arts seeks to extend the wonder of Kaleidoscopic Reflections beyond the hospital. By supporting Vital Arts and CoppaFeel!, every purchase helps bring art into clinical spaces, and also raises funds for breast cancer awareness, an issue close to Tatty Devine’s founders' hearts and an illness Rosie Wolfenden MBE has survived.
Kaleidoscopic Reflections, will be available to view from 16th- 22nd October in the Covent Garden, London store and available for purchase via www.vitalarts.org.uk/buy-art.
