World Bee Day

World Bee Day

An inspiration behind some of our favourite designs, looking at our new classic Mini Bumblebees, bees are also responsible for pollinating 75% of our food crops worldwide and are a vital part of the ecosystem!

With the effects of climate change and habitat loss, 13 bee species have become extinct in the UK since 1900, with another 35 on the threatened species list (Friends of the Earth), so this World Bee Day we’re looking at what we can do to help these bee-autiful creatures!

Mini Bumblebee Pendant, £24

Make your garden bee-friendly

Lucky enough to have an outside space? Plant a range of flowers. We heard in the hive that bees love those cottagecore classics; poppies, lavender and sunflowers and native wildflowers; primrose, buddleia and marigolds.

Keep it wild, leave a patch of your garden untended. Bees love long grass and compost heaps are the sought after spot for building nests.

Get on the property ladder with an insect hotel. Available to buy, but why not get crafty? All you need to do is tie hollow stems like bamboo and twigs with string and pop them in a hedge or hang in a sheltered spot.

Mini Bumblebee Earrings, £27

Put some pep in their step

See your buzzing buddy looking a little sluggish? It’s snack time! Look for a nearby flower to place the bee on to or as a last resort mix two teaspoons of white sugar (honey? no thank you!) with one teaspoon of water and put a drip of the solution nearby, to bring a tired bee back to life!

Honey Bee Necklace, £45

Eat sustainably

When done right farming for honey can be beneficial to wild populations. If it's possible, try to shop locally from independent beekeepers who practice sustainability. Knowing where your honey comes from and cutting down carbon emissions? Buzzing!

Alison Hardcastle X Tatty Devine Honey Bee Card, £3

Bee aware

Did you know there are around 200 species of solitary bees in the UK? (WWF) Keep track of the bees in your garden and local area by downloading a bee sheet online.
