Introducing: GIRLS GOT IDEAS
This year, we're thrilled to team up with paper-cutting artist, Poppy Chancellor AKA Poppy’s Papercuts to create an exclusive collection of female-focused designs in celebration of International Women’s Day 2018 and in partnership with the WOW Festival. Meet GIRLS GOT IDEAS!
The collection celebrates six inspiring and talented contemporary women, whose individual stories have been transformed into a series of playful, yet empowering jewellery. Taking references from interviews with each woman, Poppy has created delicate paper cuts based on these intimate conversations and then each piece has been reimagined in our classic laser cut acrylic style to create a range of bold and colourful jewellery. The pieces seek to embolden women to do whatever they want, through exuberant, exciting ideas: start an all-female basketball team, hula-hoop in 9-inch platform roller-skates(!) or silence naysayers by building your own successful business. Do whatever makes you happy!
Artist, author and craft based maker, Rosy Nicholas’ pieces celebrate her love of craft, encouraging others to find ‘their thing’ in life by playing to their strengths.
Jet setting painter and kaleidoscopic muralist, Lakwena’s pieces focus on the exploration of how colour and content has the power to lift the spirit, creating wearable art with mood boosting abilities!
Creative mastermind and founder of Lazy Oaf, Gemma Shiel’s pieces are inspired by her respect for singer Madonna’s ability to ‘Do her Own Thing’ and the passion that drove her to start her own brand.
Transgender advocate, Elle UK columnist and author Rhyannon Styles’ pieces are inspired by symbols of hope from her childhood and her thoughts on motherhood, taking the form of a delicate ballet slipper and hand inked earrings bearing the message, “Love to Give’.
Author and founder of Hackney Gazelles, Bwalya Newton’s pieces draw inspiration from political activist, Angela Davis, reiterating Davis’ message that if everyone were to do their bit, we can change the world together.
Performer, author, high-heeled roller-skater and 12-time world record holder, Marawa Ibrahim’s pieces are based on Marawa’s belief that whilst ‘brave’ and ‘beautiful’ don’t always go together, they are not mutually exclusive!
Heads up! We’ve taken over the Southbank Centre shop for a month long pop up, featuring a hand picked selection of classic Tatty Devine pieces, as well as clothing, prints, cards and books from our six contributors.
