Tatty Devine gets cosmic for World Space Week!
It's our favourite time of the year: World Space Week! Space has always been a key inspiration behind our collections, from our starry new Autumn Winter 2013 collection to our AW06 collection, Intergalactic Hedgerows. It's time to discover the mysteries of the galaxy and take a trip back in time to 2006. Take a look inside your jewellery box - do you own a vintage piece from this cosmic collection? As much as we love Perspex (and we really, really do!) we love using other materials too. Miniature walnut wood planets were laser cut and inlaid with glossy black orbiting rings. Tiny shimmering beads added a space age touch to bracelets and delicate drop earrings. Love this style? Add a sci fi touch to your look with a marbled Planet Necklace. Since the first artificial satellite, the Sputnik 1, was launched by the Soviet Union in 1957, thousands of satellites have been launched into orbit around the Earth. Over the years, many have completed their missions and are now considered 'space debris'. We couldn't think of more beautiful debris and created our mirror Perspex satellite necklaces, brooches and earrings in their honour: "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight..." Our shooting stars were laser cut and etched in walnut wood, with a shimmering coating of silver leaf. Well, if you're going to wish on one, it might as well be precious! "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." Who better to head into the uncharted depths of space than our very own retro astronauts? Our sixties spacemen were poised to explore the galaxy in their very own white, red and black Perspex Tatty Devine rockets: We've always loved constellations and the mythology that surrounds them. The story of Scorpius inspired our mystical scorpion who, according to ancient tales, beat the legendary hunter Orion in a battle: Can you spot our original Bear Brooch design? This cute creature appears in our current Autumn Winter collection as the Sky Lab Bear Brooch - and it's had a star spangled makeover:

Our bear's stylish silhouette is etched and hand inked with constellation lines and studded with pink-toned iridescent Aurora Borealis crystals and stars. It's joined by a twinkling new Sky Lab Rabbit Brooch, inspired by the constellation Lepus:

Go behind the scenes at our London workshop and discover how it was designed and made now. Don't forget to tweet and instagram snaps of yourself in our space age jewellery, too!
