Get Lippy for The Eve Appeal

Get Lippy for The Eve Appeal

This May we’ve joined The Eve Appeal for the second year running in their #GetLippy campaign to help raise funds for the charity.

The Eve Appeal is the only UK national charity raising awareness and funding
research into the prevention and early diagnosis of the five gynaecological cancers – womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal. It was set up to save women’s lives by funding groundbreaking research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection and developing screening for these cancers. The world-leading research that we fund is ambitious and challenging but our vision is simple:  A future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers.

Due to the current global coronavirus pandemic, funds raised throughout the month will be going directly to their programmes, in particular their Ask Eve nurse service, which provides vital information for all by telephone and email to those who are concerned about signs, symptoms and risk factors around gynae cancers.

Here’s a quote from Anita Mirta, a surgeon at Northwick Park, the first hospital in the UK that reached capacity with COVID cases on the importance of the Ask Eve service:

"I was relieved to finally find a reliable UK-based source of online information for those undergoing investigation & treatment for gynaecological cancers, or generally looking to educate themselves about their health. The Ask Eve service is arguably their most valuable asset, run by Tracie, a very experienced NHS gynae cancer nurse specialist and Karen who is perhaps the most supportive, yet knowledgeable cancer survivor one could hope to pick up the phone; I'm grateful to them for supporting my patients through what is understandably an anxious time.

In the current healthcare crisis, having access to trustworthy remote support becomes even more crucial, as the NHS is forced to direct staff towards other emergency services. Patient
anxiety persists, and if anything is heightened during this pandemic, and I know I speak for many NHS colleagues who truly believe that the Ask Eve service will provide essential help & support during these uncertain times.”

Keeping ourselves well and knowing our own bodies has never been more important. Get Lippy is a campaign focussed on helping women get vital information about their gynae health and seek help when something isn’t right.
