Tatty Devine X Frida Kahlo

Paint your own reality with our new official jewellery collaboration, Tatty Devine X Frida Kahlo. Launching on what would have been Kahlo’s 115th birthday, we’re celebrating this pioneering Mexican artist in style with a twenty-piece jewellery collection, inspired by her works and the jewellery she herself wore. Designed in East London and handmade in Kent by our all-female team, explore the world of Frida Kahlo through this covetable collection of laser cut and handmade art jewellery

Meet the model: Mexican-based textile artist Victoria Villasana

Each piece explores themes of isolation, passion, pain and sexuality, as seen both in Frida Kahlo’s work as well as her eclectic, carefully curated jewellery collection. An inspiring palette of shimmering metallics, organic brights and jewel tones transform instantly recognisable motifs into wearable objects d’art. Art adorer? Spot references to surreal self-portraits and folk florals as we take a tour around Tatty Devine X Frida Kahlo.

Frame your signature style with the Frida Kahlo Floral Statement Necklace. We plucked inspiration from recurring floral motifs in Frida Kahlo’s early work: bought by the Louvre in 1939.  This was in fact, the first artwork by a 20th-century Mexican artist to be acquired by an internationally renowned museum! Bloom in fresh naïve flowers laser cut in layers of shimmering red, cream and blue acrylic to mimic Kahlo’s painted-on glass florals.

Evoke flower power in our Frida Kahlo Floral Brooch - this piece pops on any colourful ‘fit or painter’s apron.

“Frida Kahlo has always been one of the most inspiring, important and iconic artists to us both;

She embraced her uniqueness, documenting every embellishment. Jewellery mattered to Frida

and became part of her visual identity just as we hope this collection will become part of others’.”

Co-Founders, Rosie Wolfenden MBE and Harriet Vine MBE

Spell it out in our Frida Kahlo Charm Earrings. Influenced by Kahlo’s faith in tradition whilst also embracing modernity we’ve created a jewellery set bright enough to rival Frida Kahlo’s Mexican home, La Casa Azul. Keep your talismans together, pair with our Frida Kahlo Charm Statement Necklace to go full-on Frida with tactile charms inspired by her life and works.

From gold glitter hands to wooden paint palettes and pleasing pearl hummingbirds, each miniature icon is individually suspended from a recycled black acrylic lacework motif, referencing the intricate patterns within traditional Mexican Tehuana costume.

"Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?" Reach new heights in the Frida Kahlo Hummingbird Necklace. A symbol of hope, this delicate marbled bird is finished with etched and hand-inked wings - once likened to Frida's signature eyebrows and seen in her most emblematic self-portrait hanging on thorn knots around her throat… Double up with a pair of charming Frida Kahlo Hummingbird Earrings.

 In 1948, with her health deteriorating, Frida Kahlo only created one painting this year, a self-portrait commissioned by friend Dr Samuel Fastlict embodying the “exact expression of my emotions” - Frida depicted herself wearing the traditional Tehuana costume, iconic to Mexican culture, and layers of jewellery. Inspired by this captured moment, say hello to an ornate contemporary heirloom, the Frida Kahlo Cameo Necklace.

A potent tribute to Frida Kahlo’s artwork on the duality of heartache and wholeness: surrealism meets statement jewellery in the Frida Kahlo Heart Necklace. Set to get hearts beating, shop our official collaboration, Tatty Devine X Frida Kahlo, online and in-store now
