Brick Lane: End of an Era

Brick Lane: End of an Era
Way back in the winter of 2000, when Tatty Devine was taking its first steps, our wonderful co-founders Harriet and Rosie went out looking for a studio space for their fledgling brand.

With just one criteria, to be in the heart of the East End. Surrounded by art openings, haberdasheries, leather wholesalers and, most importantly, lots of parties, they took to the Yellow Pages (remember that?). Flicking through the pages led to a stroll up the road to find 236 Brick Lane, which would soon become the home of Tatty Devine for the next twenty years!

Fancy finding out more? Why not read ALL about it in Misshapes: The Making of Tatty Devine.

Wow, we could not have expected all the wonders the next twenty years would hold. In a non-stop whirlwind of parties, exhibitions, musical launches (who can forget THAT afternoon with icon Peaches), sample sales, boozy jewellery-making workshops and so much more, our tiny shop became a studio, workshop space and a dancefloor!

Always lovers of parties, get-togethers and creating AMAZING things, we have some big plans for 2021. Exciting times alongside a pandemic (we know, we’re fed up of hearing about it too) means Team Tatty need a bit more space.

So as we start the next chapter for Tatty Devine, we say a warm goodbye to 236 Brick Lane. Our headquarters will be moving up the road and along the canal to a beautiful old chalk factory, a big airy light space where the next collections will be dreamt up. And don’t worry, you can still shop with us IRL across town in our 7 Dials store where you’ll see all the familiar faces you are used to seeing in East London, and even more amazing jewellery.

We want to say a huge thank you to all our loyal customers that have been shopping at our Brick Lane store over the years, we have made SO many great memories. The fun will continue, and we can’t wait to see you all soon!
