London rolling

London rolling

There's nothing more exciting on a damp and dreary Saturday night than heading to the first London Rollergirls bout of the new year. As proud sponsor of the LRG, we couldn't wait for an evening of fast and furious skating and cheering on our favourite teams. Never been to a live action roller derby before? It goes a little like this: girls on roller skates, sparkly spandex, knee pads and pun-tastic player nicknames (think along the lines of 'Grievous Bodily Charm'). We arrived to find Harbour Grudges storming round the track in the face of strong opposition from rival team, the Suffra Jets. It might have been cold outside but every player worked up a sweat as they fought for the all important top position in the league tables. Competition was fierce and we alternately whooped and gasped as girls racked up points and took some spectacular falls.

Guess who we spied proudly wearing her custom name necklace? Suffra Jet Mama Mash Bash's purple lettering perfectly matches her helmet and lets the other team know who's in charge. Not only is Mama Mash Bash a force to be reckoned with on wheels, she is also a big fan of Tatty Devine - everybody in her family has their own name necklace... even her puppy! With three more double header league games coming up, there's every opportunity to catch the London Rollergirls in action. You'll be digging out your old roller skates in no time!
