SS23: Meet the Models

PSA: It’s two months since we released our limited edition SS23 collection, Kaleidoscope of Love: our most personal collection yet, bursting with odes to our Co-Founders, Rosie and Harriet’s favourite things. Think winsome puffs of mimosa flowers, refreshing citrus cocktails and tumbling ice cubes and cascades of chromatic hearts, best paired with colour-blocked ensembles and coiffs in every shade of the rainbow.

Following an Instagram-wide casting call with hundreds of applicants, we somehow managed to curate a crew of real-life dopamine dressers turned models to join us in our East London studio for a day of colour-loving chaos and it’s about time we introduced you properly! If you’ve so far resisted the siren call of a rainbow ‘do, be warned: the lure of peroxide and a dash of Shrine (our model’s go-to hair dye) has never been stronger!

Let’s get to know the colour-obsessed faces behind our rainbow-splashed SS23 photoshoot.

Alma is a London-based sewist and blogger and can be found here: @almamadeit

Describe yourself in 5 words:

Never willingly wearing boring clothes.

So Alma, you modelled our limited edition Oyster Earrings, wearing head-to-toe purple: how did going purple make you feel?

Those earrings are incredible! Such a clever design and the interactive pearl that moves is just genius. I went purple last September with my hair and I haven’t looked back. My wardrobe is now filled with the colour. I think some people are a bit scared of it and I definitely get some odd looks on the tube, but it makes me feel powerful and never boring.

Picture this: you're getting dressed for the day, what defines a 'good outfit'?

I make all my clothes, so there are rarely ‘bad outfits’ because every piece is filled with love and creativity. My favourite outfits involve a lot of colour and a whimsical print: eggs, pineapples, lemons, zebras, chillis, sausage dogs of course, bananas, hands, you name it, I’ve probably sewn it and worn it. Probably why I love Tatty Devine too, thinking about it, I think you’ve covered most of those.

Take a wild guess...

You modelled our limited edition Sweet Marigolds Necklace, wearing everything orange: how did going totally orange make you feel?

Like my true authentic zesty self.

Picture this: you're getting dressed for the day, what defines a 'good outfit'?

Anything that makes me feel fabulous. Usually bright, bold, or clashing colours or retro prints.

An expert on all things colour: Momtaz is an author, podcaster and travel blogger. Find her on the ‘gram as  @momtazbh.

What's your favourite colour?

It's always changing! I have a very intuitive connection to colour and I'm drawn to different colours at different times - but this is very normal. Most people don't have a favourite colour their whole life and I write about this phenomenon in my book Hello Rainbow Finding Happiness in Colour. At the moment though I'm very drawn to maroon and bright pink together. I might do my hair that shade next!

So Momtaz, which person, object or place is guaranteed to make you smile?

I'm usually smiling so it doesn't take much to make me break out into a grin but I do really enjoy starting my mornings seeing bright green wild parakeets at my window. They gather on the tree every morning without fail and they bring me a lot of joy - I'm always smiling and laughing at their antics.

Picture this: you're getting dressed for the day, what defines a 'good outfit'?

I'm a dopamine dresser, every outfit I wear makes me feel good about myself. I love creating a head-to-toe looks with attention to detail from hats and headpieces down to socks and shoes, make-up, nails and of course jewellery and accessories! There's always something hanging from my ears and around my neck and I also have a thing for bangles. Personally, I love to incorporate different elements like textures and colours, prints and patterns and craft techniques like embroidery and I often have something I've made on me and something I may have bought on my travels. When all of these things come together I know that I'm feeling 100% me!

Hey Maz, what's your favourite colour?

PINK!! It became my favourite colour in my 30s. I have no idea where it came from, because I hated wearing pink as a kid, but I love it so much now.

You modelled our limited edition Weeping Willow Necklace, wearing green: how did going green make you feel?

Like mother nature's chosen child. A powerful earthly being.

Picture this: you're getting dressed for the day, what defines a 'good outfit'?

Ooooooh. I really love sporty clothes, but like stuff you couldn't really do sport. Like something super comfortable, super bright and something that makes people say "damn! I like your...". Also, imma need to be able to drop into a split at a moment's notice in this outfit, so yea stretchy.

It can depend but my all-time favourite is bright turquoise. More than a favourite colour, my favourite colour combination is turquoise and pink.

You modelled our limited edition Frilly Lettuce Earrings, wearing all green: how did going green make you feel?

Happy! Colours are such a source of joy. I love dopamine dressing, it makes me feel so bold and confident. I loved wearing green in such a playful way, especially through the lettuce pieces!

Picture this: you're getting dressed for the day, what defines a 'good outfit'?

Lots of layers, all in contrasting textures, colours, and patterns. Comfort is key right now as I finish editing my novel, so I've been loving wearing dresses over trousers for the perfect mix of comfy and cool.
