Women With Something To Say: MJ Delaney
Hooray for MJ Delaney! Director MJ, who has made films for Vivienne Westwood, Dazed and Confused and BBC Online has just released her feature film directorial debut, Powder Room, which stars Sheridan Smith, Oona Chaplin and Tatty Devine afficiandos Kate Nash and Jaime Winstone - and we can't wait to see it. Take a peek at the trailer here: We asked MJ to design her own Name Necklace as part of our Women With Something To Say campaign and she knew exactly what she wanted: "The word I choose is POWDER, to reference Powder Room, my first feature film, which has a (nearly) all-female cast and largely female crew and passes the Bechdel Test with flying colours." We're big fans of the Bechdel Test here at Tatty Devine HQ. It's a simple test which you can use to evaluate films according to the following criteria: it has to have at least two women in it, who talk to each other, about something besides a man. Give it a go - you'd be surprised how many films and TV programmes don't pass! Just like the actors who play them, MJ's characters aren't shy: "These girls have a LOT to say over the course of the evening. It's ultimately a celebration of female friendship and female solidarity, the likes of which isn't seen much at the movies." Thanks, MJ! We'll definitely be heading to the cinema this week to see Powder Room. Find out where it's screening near you and don't forget to tweet your review!
